History of the Akron District Golf Association

The Akron District Golf Association was established over 75 years ago as a non-profit organization with the objective of promoting amateur golf competition in the best interests and good fellowship of the game of golf throughout the greater Akron area.

A select group of dedicated individuals, the Board of Governors, and its officers serve on a voluntary basis throughout the year to organize and operate the individual tournaments and solicit sponsors and memberships. These men are elected annually and are guided by the Association's Constitution and the United States Golf Association Rules of Golf.

Much of the success of the organization is due to the financial support of area businesses and golf clubs through tournament sponsorships, associate and business memberships, and advertising partners. The ADGA annual budget has increased in recent years to over $27,000, which has allowed for the distribution of significantly higher tournament awards in the form of gift certificates to the top finishers in each event.
